Intake Manifold & Air Induction System with Emissions Control

Today’s vehicles demand automotive parts that will not increase the vehicle’s longevity but will also enhance the vehicles performance too. An example of such automotive parts are the intake manifold and the air induction system with emission control that when perform their functions properly, enable the vehicle to meet the standards and requirements of the customers.

Today’s vehicles face a stiff competition from its compatriots in the vehicle industry. With the increasing demand of these vehicles and with customers ready to shell out large sums of money to get hold of their preferred vehicle, the vehicle industries are leaving no stone unturned in making their product look the best choice among all the other competitors. In order to gain an edge over its competitors, the vehicles need not be just good and stylish in appearance but they should function equally well too. The parts and automotives used in the vehicles should enhance the overall impression of the vehicle. Hence, the companies dealing with the manufacture of the vehicles are laying stress on the good quality of the parts that they use in their vehicles.

The intake manifold is a very important part of a vehicle’s engine whose function if stated in simple words, is to supply air mixture to the cylinders. The mixture supplied by the intake manifold can also be an air mixture at times. The intake manifold distributes the air or the combustion mixture evenly to each intake port in the cylinder’s head. The even distribution of the air or combustion mixture is important because it optimizes the efficiency and the performance of the engine. At times, the intake manifold can also serve as a mount for the carburetor, throttle body, fuel injectors and other components of the engine. The intake manifold is generally manufactured from cast iron or aluminum but lately, the use of composite plastic materials like  ford zetec 2.0, duratec 2.0 etc has gained popularity too. Some intake manifolds are designed with system engineering focus and extensive analytical tools to manage performance for power, acoustics, emissions, fuel economy etc.

The design and orientation of the intake manifold is a major factor in deciding the volumetric efficiency of an engine. Another important part of a vehicle is an air induction system with emission control. An air induction system with emission control reduces and brings down the evaporative emissions of the vehicles during the times when the engine is in the off conditions. The air induction system with emission control sends the filtered air to the engine during the times when the engine of the vehicle is operating along with providing noise control with the loss of minimal power. These devices are designed and constructed from a number of materials to balance the customer requirement.
