Coal varieties of importance; Grade A Coal and Grade C Coal

Coal forms one of the most basic and one of the most widely used form of fossil fuel across the world. Being in use since centuries ago, the coal is available in different forms and varieties, depending upon the conditions under which it is formed. The grade A coal and the grade C coal are the two major varieties of coals that find use in both, open fires as well as in multi fuel stoves.

Coal is one of the most important category of fossil fuel and perhaps our most abundant fossil fuel resource. Coal is a complex mixture of organic chemicals substances that contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in chemical combinations along with smaller amounts of sulfur and nitrogen. This organic composition of a coal is associated with its various amounts of moisture and minerals. Coal begins its formation as a layer of plant matter that accumulates at the bottom of body water. The coal is found in different forms depending on the conditions and temperatures in which the coal is formed. Some of these forms are peat, lignite, bituminous coal, anthracite, graphite etc. The different kind of coals are ranked by the measure known as degree of coalification that increases progressively from lignite to low rank of the coal, to high rank of the coal, to anthracite. The carbon content of the coal increases while the hydrogen and the oxygen content decrease throughout the series. Along with these, the hardness of the variety of coal increases while the reactivity decreases. The difference in the rank of the coal varieties is also attributed to the different amount of heat and pressure that is applied during the geochemical stage of the coal development. Coal as a fossil fuel is the largest source of energy that is used for the generation of electricity worldwide. The coal is used primarily as a solid fuel to produce electricity and heat through combustion.

The coals are also offered to the customers by the coal manufacturing companies in the form of grades of coal. Among these varieties of the coal being offered, the grade A coal is considered to be the best variety of the coal available in the market. The grade A coal fulfills the heating and the bio fuel requirements of the clients across the country. The grade A coal are preferred by the customers because of the many advantages that it offers like the high heating capacity, the high carbon content of the coal, the low burning ability and the low ash formation ability of the coal.

Another widely preferred variety of the coal is the grade C coal that can be mixed with high ash fuels to increase the ignition capacity. The grade C coals produce greater heat and minimal ash during its combustion. Both these varieties of coals are used extensively by the clients for both, open fires as well as for multi fuel stoves, depending upon the appliances.
