There are many fabrics that are available in the markets today for the consumer to choose from. While some of these fabrics are obtained from plants, some fabrics are prepared by the use of artificial processing. And the use of these fabrics is varied too. With its chief use in making apparels and garments, these fabrics can be used for home decorative purpose too. One of the most commonly used fibre around the globe is the cotton. Available in many forms, the Indian raw cotton is one of the popularly used cotton. The Indian raw cotton is a soft fibre that grows around the seeds of the cotton plant.

The Indian raw cotton is generally spun into a thread and is used to produce a very soft textile. The Indian raw cotton has been used in making clothes and garments since centuries and the cloth produced from the Indian raw cotton is known for its fine quality along with light weightiness. The Indian raw cotton is considered to be one of the oldest variety of cotton and is supposed to be grown in India since the Vedic times. The Indian raw cotton is used widely in the production of textile products. Some examples of the textiles produced from the Indian raw cotton are terrycloth that is a highly absorbent variety and hence is used in making bath towels and robes, denim that is used in making blue jeans, corduroy etc. The Indian raw cotton is used in making a number of garments like shirts, t- shirts, socks, saris, kurtis etc. In fact, bed sheets and other tapestry materials like curtains are also made from the Indian raw cotton. While in some cases, the Indian raw cotton is used in its pure form, in other cases, the Indian raw cotton is used in combination with few other materials like rayon etc.

The cotton is derived from the cotton plants. The cotton fibre grows as a boll or a protective capsule around the seeds of the cotton plant. The cotton plant by nature is a shrub and grows in the tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world like America, Africa and our own country India. The cotton obtained from the cotton plant is spun into a yarn or thread before being used to make soft, breathable textile cotton. The cotton plants are being selectively bred today in different regions of the world so that the cotton plants grow more fibre. Available in many forms like organic cotton, raw cotton etc, the cotton plant and its derivatives have found immense use in our everyday lives and hence are bred with great care and protection.
