Considering the health benefits of lentils, they can be had daily as they are rich in proteins. Udid or black gram is a variety of gram which is common to many Indian recipes. Grams may grow in areas of scanty rain and is basically a Rabi crop growing mostly in the northern regions of India.

Gram is a well-known variety among pulses in crushed and powdered form (besan) and they are used to make various preparations including vegetables and sweets. Gram is mainly cultivated in Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and it is often a rotational crop planted in clay loam or sandy loamy soils. It is a Rabi crop and highly suited to areas with scanty rainfall as heavy rainfall may damage the crop. It is an important crop that occupies two fifths of the total pulses cultivation.
Pulses are so widely preferred because they have innumerable nutritious benefits and can be easily digested; it has benefits greater than wheat and rice. Black gram or Udid is a favorite is various parts of India apart from north, which is famous for recipes like Dal makhani that is relished with Roti or paratha types of bread, a staple in Indian households.
